 Jon Pietruszkiewicz  P.E., CCP     

25 years- Jon is currently a Project Manager in the Black & Veatch Renewable Energy and Efficiency Business.  During the past year at Black & Veatch he has completed the following assignments:
  • Supported a wind, solar, and geothermal resource assessment and once thru cooling strategy assessment for a utility’s Integrated Resource Plan

 

  • Project Manager for wind and solar resource assessment and feasibility study for City of Brisbane.

 

  • Contributor to: Assessment of a 15 Percent Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard.

 

  • Project Manager for a reliability analysis of a Wattsun PV tracker system

 

  • Project Manager for a preliminary design and costing of molten salt energy storage systems for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)

 

  • Participant in internal Black & Veatch scenario planning for ten year strategic plan

 

  • Contributing to the Black & Veatch (B&V) Energy internal sustainable development strategy and policy as member of Drive for Value Sustainability team.

 

  • Project Manager for supply of cost and performance information to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Renewable Energy Futures study.

 

  • Task leader for the Owen’s Lake photovoltaic (PV) wind reduction pilot plant.

 

  • Supported an engineering evaluation of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) technology,

 

  • Supported engineering cost estimates for a range of renewable energy technologies, and an evaluation of solar thermal energy system costs.

 

He has been Project Manager, Program Manager and Manager of Marketing and Business Development with experience in conceptual design, final design, construction coordination, and environmental permitting.  Also, Jon has significant consulting, technology assessment, and technology portfolio management experience, as well as excellent strategic planning, business planning, market planning and corporation formation skills. During his last two years at Bechtel/Nexant he was assigned as Associate Director for Deployment at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

 

Jon has developed or participated in the development of Technology Roadmaps for Bechtel Power Corporation, the Coal Utilization Research Council, and the Electric Power Research Institute and National Renewable Energy LaboratoryJon supported the successful proposal to jointly manage the National Renewable Energy Laboratory with Battelle and MRI. Jon was assigned as the Associate Director of the DOE Laboratory.  He was responsible for improving technology deployment and managed Technology Transfer, State and Local Programs, the Federal Energy Management Program, Environmental Programs and the International programs as well as Technology deployment managers for transportation technologies, utility electric technologies and residential building technologies.  While at the laboratory it substantially increased its income stream from technology royalties, and the laboratory began a successful program Sustainable NREL which has recently won a national White House award.  The laboratory also began a national technology incubator alliance which currently has incubator members from all over the country.

 

Jon led a team of professionals over a two year period that did a global assessment of the market for renewable energy and distributed energy systems.  This study assessed not only the status and market potential for the technologies but also assessed the regulatory and financial market incentives around the globe. The study identified the technologies having the greatest market potential, as well as the countries that would most likely see successful commercialization for those technologies.  The team developed a business model for a company that would assist in the development of this industry by supplying project development services to the various technologies as they were implemented around the globe.   A business plan was developed and a business partner was identified. The company was created in the form of EnergyWorks a joint venture between a major US electric utility and a major EPC corporation. 

 

Jon has not only been employed by major corporations, he also owned and successfully operated his own  small retail business for three years.  He secured a franchise, formed an S corporation, performed all bookkeeping and tax preparation, prepared the business and marketing plan, obtained building permits, and monitored the construction build-out.  His business then provided customer service to customers for mail, shipping and home office services, operating three years. Jon then successfully sold this family business without a real estate agent or other consultant and without legal assistance in preparing the contract.  

 

Jon understands large organizations and the special requirements of small retail businesses. He is currently a CA licensed Real Estate Saleperson and a member of the National Association of Realtors.  He understands communities, and as a small business owner, he was a chamber of commerce member and a graduate of Leadership Roseville.
